New Forum for Favorited?

So far I have not added a forum for the newer platform called Favorited. I'm soliciting opinions on whether or not I should add one.

I am disinclined to do so. Change my mind.

Besides a name that makes it very hard to share (you have to explain the name to everyone, and what the heck does "favorited" even mean?), for many of us old timers we can see that this app is going down the same road as many of the failed apps we've seen over and over.

Growth is circular: users follow users in an endless cycle of following and gifting that does not bring new users into the app. Eventually it runs out of steam as the hype wears off.

Streamer Motivation is selfish: the vast majority of "content" on Favorited is people talking about how they are now using it as an alterative to TikTok because the payout is better. Many of these people are full-time streamers on TikTok and Favorited is rapidly becoming a TikTok clone.

Content becomes stale, quickly: because the concentration is on "connecting" with other creators and the "follow-for-follow" mentality, no one is concentrating on an real content worth consuming. It's all just talk, vaping, ranting and begging for more follows and gifts. I have yet to see someone going somewhere and showing us things about their culture and where they live.

Business model is flawed: Since it's largely the same actors doing the same thing every day, this is more of a "share the wealth" model than anything else. Eventually it will top out and go under.

App is severely technically limited: Portrait mode only, this app is also oriented to front-camera, reverse image streaming, which can only mean one thing: narcissists. This app is all about ME. One cannot enter setup mode and preset the camera or microphone settings unti after the live stream is started. The selection of external audio sources is limited and the audio sounds very processed. For some reason, the great majority of people streaming have some background music playing and the heavy processing makes the music sound like noise. Watching a live stream with that background noise is very annoying. The management says that they have a "studio" app coming but this does not help me using the mobile app. The studio app is just going to facilitate more useless at-home content like gaming or vaping/drug use.

I streamed a band a couple of weeks ago. I had to turn the phone 90 degrees to get any of the scene into the video. The very first person to join the stream immediately asked to do a battle. Clearly they did not look at the content, nor were they even interested to see what it was. Their focus is on the circular growth I mentioned at the beginning of this post.

When people have zero interest in what you are streaming, and they also demonstrate zero interest in what they themselves are streaming, how can this possibly result in success?

I've said it before and I will say it again: No one has come along and fulfilled the void left by Periscope. Huge opportunity loss once again.

I took another look at the "content" on Favorited today. Smoking, vaping, drug use, profanity, people doing nothing but wasting time looking at their phones. Ridiculous "battles" for popularity that accomplish nothing.

I changed my bio telling people that I have signed out and deleted the app because it's not a very good environment, and the app is doomed to fail.

Favorited is going the way of Happs and Caffeine.

All good things come to an end.
We're at the point where we are still not quite profitable, so we've made the decision to end the service as of June 26th as we figure out our next steps. It has been a wild ride, with quite a few achievements along the way:

We built a world class streaming platform that has grown to 61 million monthly users and 4 million per day.
Aggregated 200 sports partners across 17 categories of sports.
Explored virtual gifting, subscriptions, PPV and advertising business models, and every shade of gray in between.
Built a world class team, world class board, and world class set of investors.
Created a unique and disruptive angle for live streaming sports.
We've had a huge impact on the industry and will again soon, in a different way. Many, many thanks to all involved. We'll remember this for life.

Caffiene had a lot going for it. I don't even see this level of commitment and organization from Favorited.
