DJI OM4 Osmo Gimbal

Post by MJKlein »

Has anyone used this gimbal? I haven't even seen it yet. It looks like the arm that holds the mobile phone has been moved out of the way so the motor is not in the field when shooting wide angle. That is a big issue with my Zhiyun Smooth 3. When using my wide angle lens on my mobile phone, the big motor off to the right is clearly visible. When I bought that gimbal, multi-lens phones weren't even a common thing yet.

I'm not too keen though, on the fact that you have to use their app for any other function besides a straight gimbal. I would be using it mostly for live streaming so none of those cool features would be available. Also, I'm not sure how practical that magnetic mount is. I'm not putting that sticky thing on my phone and then carrying it around without a case. I'm also not going to stick the magnet to my silicone soft case. I would just use the clamp. But the arm/motor design seems excellent.

Thoughts?

I have it and I use for every broadcast since I've been multi streaming. Overall, it is excellent. I never use the MIMO app and it does everything I need it to do. I used the clamp at first but then decided to use the magnet since I was streaming a couple of times a day. The one thing you have to be careful of is when you put the magnet on, it has to be at the right angle or you will have to recalibrate your gimbal every time (which I had to do) :D But a fantastic gimbal and by far the best I've used and I've had 4 of them.

@Daveinosaka I'm now seriously considering purchasing one of these gimbals. Thank you very much for your input!

I got some weights for mine to offset the phone. Due to the construction of the phone, the ultrawide angle lens is towards the center of the device. In order to get it far enough away from the motor I have to push the phone away and then the mount is no longer in the center of the phone. DJI very cleverly included a threaded boss for adding counterweight. I'll review those and post about my experience later.
