down on the farm-Happs

Post by DeanSMS »

Occasionally, I download that Happs app but it seems more a ghost town than what the critics claimed Google Plus was.

Streamers, who have remained on Happs, do broadcasts to twitch, where I see them now, but it is annoying; I mean seeing Paris in portrait mode is boring once you seen it in landscape hence how are they going to keep us down on the farm-Happs?

I think that JL had the right idea: just broadcast landscape stuff in landscape. Even on RPAN, one time the viewers told me they had no issues with going landscape, so I did for a bit. To be honest, I do not miss RPAN at all because they are also portrait mode only. That's just so Tiktok.

portrait mode is mainly close-up of streamers' faces. I want to see the surroundings.

Once upon a time, I wrote this:
Portrait mode only is the stupidest idea from Happs to date. They did "research" and looked at "data" to support this decision. The problem is, we live in a widescreen HD world. Portrait mode means all content from now on, will be narcissistic in nature. The "new" Happs is all about me. Look at me. I'm not going to show you interesting places, or even how-to videos. You're going to be looking at me and I'm not going to even use my rear camera. This is TikTok mentality and Happs is not Tiktok.
That's what they wanted, and that's what they got:

Another thing I've noticed is that it seems as if a disproportionate number of people using Happs just aren't very nice. The other day I saw a woman with Chinese language tattoos. I asked her if she knows what the words mean. She apparently took offense and asked me why I would ask her that. She made sure that I know the tattoos are on her body (lol) and that I had asked a very strange question. Except that when I lived in the USA, people asked me what their tattoos meant because they didn't know. Also, I would say that most US-based tattoo "artists" don't read Chinese. I didn't bother trying to type all that - I just left. After that, I've seen that person several times and let's just say I don't interact with her at all.

Which brings me to another down-on-the-farm Happs issue: Dismal offerings. Have you ever pressed the Random button to take you to a random live stream? On Periscope there was an endless supply of live streams you could randomly seek. Happs has at most, 5 live streams available at Random. Its a ghost town. I honestly have no idea why anyone would go there for live streaming entertainment. There are plenty of wannabe musicians and they are all doing the same thing, for the most part. But musicians are not good viewers. They turn on their phone and live stream their bedroom performance or coffeeshop gig but normally don't sit and watch anyone else's live streams.

On top of all that, they have fake numbers. Check out this "content creator" on Happs:

https://happs.co/@AndrewKaplan/

At this writing, he has 2 streams. One is a test stream with 10 views, currently. The second live stream shows 445.4k views! How did that happen? He has 634 followers. He's playing an upright piano in his living room. He's a good player, but it would not be unreasonable to question the views on the second live stream.

Let me be clear. This has nothing to do with Andrew Kaplan, whom I do not know and has done nothing wrong that I am aware of. I'm simply using his Happs activity to demonstrate that strange things are going on there.
