Is Happs Shutting Down? Update: Confirmed Yes.

There is a rumor circulating among live streamers that Happs is shutting down. These live streamers are credible, and well known in the live streaming community around the world. Have you heard this?

Personally, I believe it. Happs policies have created an unsustainable model of no growth, and very limited, very narrow range content created by mediocre, mostly unknown streamers. The portrait-only mode decision was a step back to 2015 and limited the platform even more.

As a businessman, I cannot believe that Happs will make for another 6 months.

What do you think?

If those are the 2 main featured artists, the platform is in trouble (I'm not referring to Chris Gales).

Oh, and it's invite-only. If they just took it off the app store, it would be even more exclusive.

Thanks for the update @Disabled.

Oh, and like I said before, wait until the publishing companies start sending out copyright takedowns. If they're lucky, it will be like YouTube, where they won't get a strike but they won't get any money either.

If you are currently broadcasting on Happs and doing something different than their new vision, it is likely that you will find yourself shut out of the new platform, as it is invite-only.

I find this very disturbing since Happs went out of their way to basically scare people into joining the platform after Periscope announced their shutdown.

The following is copied from an email from David Neuman, dated March 24, 2021:
Periscope is going under in 7 days… Don’t lose your following! Happs makes it super simple to move your audience over while reaching an even larger community.

Download the latest version of Happs (iOS, Android) or go to Happs.tv. Connect your Periscope account, Go Live and invite your followers to join using the invite link in your profile. You could even make $1000 and get Happs swag if you land on the list of top 50 referrers!

Now’s the time for you and your viewers to jump to Happs, the next-gen live video platform. Don’t miss out!

Cheers,
David

So this was just a ploy to get more people on the platform by generating FOMO. It's really too bad that all those Periscope users got burned in the end. This situation lead to Randy Whorton's now famous farewell to Happs where he apologized to his more than 115,000 followers:

If you are one of the Periscope broadcasters who went over to Happs to keep your audience and continue live streaming as before (per their own email), you will most likely be left out of the new version and will have to migrate to another platform - again!

I am an international recording artist and producer, with a discography and national US radio airplay history. I am in the planning stages of a new music video shot here in Taiwan. I will not be streaming any of my professional music content on Happs. Happs is just too amateurish and a waste of electrons.

This is interesting:

If you got Happs coins, there no way to cash them out. After May 5th there will be no trace of anything you did on Happs unless you multi-cast it somewhere else.

For the record, I have decided that we will not be creating a forum for the replacement live streaming app that was created by the owners of Happs. Once Happs is officially gone though, we'll keep this forum up so you can come here and tell us all about your experiences with the platform. Should make for some good reading.
